Welcome to the Gastrointestinal Motility Center
Diagnosing and treating motility disorders is a highly specialized area of gastroenterology. To provide the level of care needed by those suffering from these disorders, the physicians at Camden Medical Center have opened the Gastrointestinal Motility Center. It will utilize advanced technology and techniques to evaluate, diagnose and treat motility and related disorders, including GERD, non-cardiac chest pain, laryngitis, swallowing disorders and rectal incontinence/constipation. Please allow us to take this opportunity to highlight some of the tests which we provide:
- 24-Hour Ambulatory pH Monitoring with Impedance testing is considered the "gold-standard" for diagnosing gastroesophageal reflux. This test is particularly useful in diagnosing gastroesophageal reflux in patients with atypical presentations, such as noncardiac chest pain, laryngitis, asthma, and other respiratory disorders.
- High resolution Esophageal Manometry measures the muscular contractions in the esophagus, including the swallowing mechanism and the lower esophageal sphincter. Our solid-state system allows us to study the upper esophageal sphincter and swallowing mechanisms, as well as the lower esophageal sphincter and esophageal body, without the drawbacks of older water-perfused systems.
- Anorectal Motility Testing allows the determination of anorectal sensorimotor dysfunction in patients complaining of constipation or fecal incontinence.
- Anorectal Biofeedback Therapy has high success rate in treating patients with complaints of fecal incontinence or pelvic floor dyssynergia.
Our Mission
Dr. Amit Goyal and Dr. KP Ganeshappa have both spent their academic careers studying gastrointestinal motility before moving to San Antonio, and are highly trained in this specialized niche of gastroenterology. We are very pleased to announce the opening of this center and hope to serve and fulfill the patient care
needs in South Texas.
